Top 10 Tips to Keep Your Home Clean During the Holidays

For most of us, the Holidays mean more hosting as friends and family gather in our homes and share laughs, good food and a warm fire. It is truly one of the most enjoyable times of year, however, along with it comes the dreaded task of...CLEANING. Before and after all of the hosting are piles of dishes, a disarray of furniture and guest rooms that need tending everywhere you turn. We at MassaRossa, however, have the Top 10 Tips For Keeping Your Home Clean During the Holidays.

  1. Start cleaning before. The number one way to prevent an even bigger mess when it’s all said and done is to tidy up and clean before. It is a tip that will ring true for holiday hosting and every other life chore that you have. Do yourself a favor and scale down the hosting disaster aftermath by tidying up your home before guests arrive.

  2. Clean over the course of days. Managing all of that cleaning beforehand can seem daunting. Eliminate that burden by planning out a week of chores to get done. This way, you’ll be able to spruce up your home without exhausting yourself, and you’ll have some decompression time to enjoy your Luxury Bathroom Garden Tub. You can thank us later.

  3. Consider what is priority. When coming up with your genius list of daily cleaning tasks, it is important for you to consider what is priority. This means that cleaning the garage or your own bedroom, might not fall number one on the list. However, areas like the entryway, living room, kitchen and guest rooms are all key areas to get spic and span before guests arrive. We suggest putting areas that are seen by guests, but used everyday by the family (and have a tendency to get messy fairly quickly) closer to the bottom of the list ie the entryway.

  4. Get the whole family involved! Many hands make work light, so assign chores to the whole family and make it a party as you all clean. Make it more fun for the kids by turning it into a game. The one who gets the most things cleaned (obviously cleaned well) gets a special treat at the end of it all. It is a great way to get the family going and to keep your stress levels low.

  5. Clean as you cook. The tried and true advice from your favorite cook in the kitchen has come back around. Yes, cleaning as you go in the kitchen makes for less dishes and happier faces at the end of every meal. Save yourself time, and stress by washing dishes and putting things away. Make this a family task too by designating someone to wash and another to put away. Cooking has never been so easy!

  6. Use your dishwasher. Not really sure why we have to state this, but the dishwasher is going to be your best friend. Don’t cheat yourself either. Maximize the amount of dishes that you can get clean in your dishwasher by playing a game of tetris and stacking them just right. The better you stack, the less you have to scrub.

  7. Maintain your organization. It sounds so easy, doesn’t it? It can be especially difficult to keep things organized when you have the house full of guests and extra things during this time of year, but ensuring that you put things back where they belong will save you so much trouble in the end. Keep dishes put away, shoes in their designated area, mail in a single location, clothes on their hangers and random items off of the counter. Whatever you do, don’t let things get scattered.

  8. Keep up with recycling and trash. As you may know, trash piles up quickly, like really quickly when you have guests in town. Make it routine to take it out everyday, or every two days if your family isn’t as wasteful. Seriously, no one wants to figure out how to stack their soda can on top of the mountain of garbage that’s been piling up over the week.

  9. Clean the little things daily. Maintaining spotlessness is simple if you don’t let things get too awful in the first place. As guests arrive and stick around, take the time to make sure your toilet paper stays stocked, your sinks are wiped down, your windows are streakless and the clothes are washed. Keeping cleaning supplies close will allow you to spray down your shower daily and keep away dirt and gross bacteria. It is also that time of year for sickness so this is also a health precaution.

  10. Put up signs! Putting up signs for your guests can help tremendously! A sign at the front door that tells people to take off their shoes inside helps to keep shoes in one location, as well as influences them to ask where their coats belong (in the closet of course) and where they can set down their things. If signs aren’t your thing, taking the time to tell your guests where their things belong, where they can get towels, where they can place their dirty clothing and the general things you'd like them to do to maintain the upkeep of your house are all very helpful.

  11. Prepare for storage. We know we only said 10, but it’s the season of giving and we’re in the spirit so here is one more tip for you to rock your clean luxury home. Prepping for storage is such a forgotten tip, but it is honestly a great one. When you buy all of those gifts and cook all of that food, it must go somewhere. If you expect leftovers or an overflow of items, make sure to have the space for it. Declutter your fridge and space by getting rid of, or donating if you can, anything old, expired or simply unused.
